This song reached number 5 in the US and peaked at number 3 in the UK. It also reached the top 10 in at least ten other countries. The song features some rap by Ludacris. It starts out with a synthesized piano then is carried almost exclusively by a drum beat, clap effects and a metallic rattle throughout the rest of the song. Somehow it works. Bieber co-wrote the song alongside Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Terius "The-Dream" Nash. What does it mean? He says 'baby' what seems like several hundred times in the song. He also promises things to her. Is this someone that won't give him the time of day? Someone who he has never met? Someone famous? Is it an ex-girlfriend? Well, would you believe all...or none of the above? It's never made clear if this is somebody new, an acquaintance, friend or an ex. The song focusus just on the fact that he is really struggling to get this girl to be with him. He put in simple terms when explaining it to Digital Spy "I'm basically saying I really like this girl and would do anything to make her my girlfriend." OK. He told MTV News regarding the song and video "It starts off, I really like this girl, but we didn't [get] along; we couldn't be together," he said. "Basically I want her back and [I'm] kind of going through the whole thing. I'm chasing her around, trying to get her, and she's kind of playing hard to get, but I'm persistent. I keep going." The video seems to end with him getting the girl but the song portrays a sad ending with Justin repeatedly saying "I'm gone, I'm all gone" which suggests he has given his all in a futile effort.
